The Subaru Outback is an automotive nameplate used by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) since 1994. The "Outback" name has been utilized on two different Subaru branded vehicles. One of these models is based on the mid-sized Subaru Legacy and the other derived from the hatchback version of the Subaru Impreza. The Outback is Subaru's best-selling model, so it's important that the automaker keeps it up to date. A slate of revisions for the 2018 model year, debuting at the New York Auto Show, keeps the Outback nice and fresh. The 2018 Subaru Outback doesn't change much from the outside. The front fascia has wider openings, and the headlights pick up a redesign with new LED running lights. The body cladding is also a bit beefier, to help keep the panels free from rock chips and dents.

The debut of the new 2018 Outback means the vehicle is equipped with the latest version of Subaru’s Starlink infotainment systems, which the company says will supply quicker performance than before. The standard version of Starlink has a larger 6.5-in. display, up from 6.2 ins. It provides a USB port, Bluetooth audio streaming, and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-projection systems.

Durable SUBARU BOXER engines combine with a Lineartronic CVT to deliver up to a fuel-efficient 32 MPG highway. A 256-hp 6-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine is also available, even if more capacity is needed. The base trim gets equipped with a 2.5-liter engine which generates 175 horsepower. Of course, in higher trims, you get a 3.6-liter flat-6 unit that makes 256 hp.

Outback offers a host of available active safety technologies. Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist warns you with a visual indicator in each side mirror if it senses a vehicle in your blind spots, while Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, and a standard Rear-Vision Camera assists while backing up. Together with EyeSight, they provide an all-around suite of awareness and safety.
